Tips for Safe Buildings
Before leaving for Winter Break, a review of your district’s or school’s emergency response plan can ensure you’re ready in case of an emergency over the holidays.
Develop an emergency preparedness plan that includes inspection checklists and shutdown procedures, as well as contacts for out-of-region vendors and emergency services.
Review the emergency plan with your team.
Building temperatures should be maintained and monitored at no lower than 58-60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Have someone periodically check your buildings for leaks. If a pipe breaks, catching leaks early can help limit extensive damage.
Create an emergency contact list that includes employee contacts, insurance company information, emergency service numbers, utility numbers, and business information.
Consider setting up a phone tree so information related to an emergency can be shared quickly. Once developed, distribute it to all employees.
Check the signs stating your district or school name and address to ensure they are visible.
When an emergency takes place, call CSDSIP at 800.332.3556 to report the claim and receive guidance on how to proceed.
You can stay prepared throughout the year by:
Developing and reviewing your business continuity plan (BPC) on a regular basis, making sure the contact information, contracts, suppliers, and locations are up to date
