Claim Specialist I/II
Do you have 2-6 years’ experience investigating, evaluating, and negotiating auto liability and general liability claims? Can you handle difficult conversations diplomatically, and understand the importance of claim file documentation to support optimal outcomes? Have you ever wanted to help school districts deliver on their daily obligations to students in the state of Colorado? Now, you can. The Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) is seeking a Claim Specialist I or II to join our small office of dedicated insurance experts in Centennial, CO.
Our team provides insurance, risk management, and claims handling to public schools throughout Colorado. We value collaboration, creativity, and customer service.
We need someone who works well independently, understands the importance of the details, can think on their feet, and isn’t afraid to step outside of their comfort zone to take care of a Member. If you excel in the art of negotiation, that’s even better!
Major Responsibilities
-
Interpret an insurance contract to recognize when a coverage question exists and determine if coverage is applicable for a specific loss.
-
Write reservations of rights letters, when applicable, to preserve CSDSIP’s rights regarding coverage investigations and outcomes, and write disclaimer letters if coverage declination is the appropriate decision.
-
Conduct claims investigations by communicating with Members, claimants, witnesses, vendors, field personnel, and potentially medical providers, among other internal and external sources.
-
Using the results of such investigation, determine claim cause, scope, and extent of damages and/or liability, determine claim validity, and pursue subrogation, when applicable.
-
Identify negotiation opportunities when reviewing subrogation demands, legal demands, and other claim documentation to determine the amount reasonably owed. We pay what we owe, no more – no less.
-
After claim evaluation, negotiate the value of damages to resolution with Members, claimants and/or attorneys, and vendors, and secure appropriate 1099 reporting documents and executed releases, if applicable.
-
Document all relevant claim activity to support claim outcomes using professional verbiage and appropriate grammar and punctuation.
-
Create correspondence to Members, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and vendors using professional verbiage and appropriate grammar and punctuation.
-
Roundtable complex files with other team members to evaluate exposure and risk and to enable team learning and the sharing of perspectives.
-
Maintain positive relationships with other departments to enable achievement of our organizational goals. Member service is our priority.
Requirements
-
Able to communicate investigation results and positions in a manner that the other party can understand and accept, even if they do not agree.
-
Have a strong understanding of the immunities afforded under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act and apply those concepts to appropriate claims.
-
Able to work in a fast-paced environment with complex issues and a variety of claim values.
-
Able to work independently.
-
Be highly-organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
-
Be open and receptive to feedback to encourage ongoing growth and development in the role.
-
May attend mediations and/or trials on CSDSIP’s behalf in coordination with the Litigation Specialist.
-
Have a desire to support a diverse group of professionals who do not always see things the same way but are unified in their commitment to serving our Membership.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or a related field.
A CPCU, AIC, or ARM designation is a plus.
Required Experience:
Claim Specialist I – at least 2 years’ experience handling low-severity auto physical damage, property damage, and soft-tissue injury claims.
Claim Specialist II – at least 6 years’ experience handling moderately severe auto bodily injury and/or general liability claims.
Total rewards:
CSDSIP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package for employees, including a generous 401(k) match; participation in the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association; and 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
While we realize that remote work is all the rage, we also know that we collaborate better in-person, so this is primarily an on-site position, with a flexible schedule, including one remote day for employees performing at expected levels.
Office attire is usually casual, and our atmosphere is more relaxed than the typical corporation.
Salary range: $62,000 - $96,000
